With
the Cowboys' season all but dead and buried and the Mavericks sucking harder than the
vacuum of deep space, this sports fan's attention turn to his adopted favorite sport:
hockey. I'm not a bandwagon rider though. I earned my love for the game while
playing its diminutive sibling, broomball.
But enough about me, I'm writing this to all those
out there who don't know what they're missing and to those, like Ray in Allen, who seem
woefully misguided in their opinions on the game, or more particularly, on our Dallas
Stars. Barring a few games, like the 7-2 pasting by St. Louis that I had the
misfortune of being at, this town has a great team. A lot of good, hard working
players who, more often than not, play with a lot of heart. But wait, you say the
game's hard to understand . . . Next time you think that, try explaining football's
"incomplete pass/fumble" rule to your girlfriend sometime. I'd
rather explain what "icing" is, thank you very much.
As for our esteemed, yet much maligned, netminder,
Ed Belfour, try these stats"
Ray, if you want to spew venom, try it out on Mike Modano. Yeah,
he's playing great now, but this is a contract year for him. Let's see if Mr. League
Scoring Leader can keep it up once he's getting the big bucks. If so, then I'll
happily eat my words.
Everyone else out there, take some of that disposable income and plunk
it down on Stars tickets. You'll get more than enough bang for your buck and
besides, you'll never see George Dunham's dog at a Maverick game.
