Let the Games Begin

It's about damn time.

The pre-season has begun for what will probably be the only playoff bound team in the metroplex.  The Stars began the pre-season in Tampa Bay with a 5-1 pasting of the hapless Lightning.

By all accounts it was a thing a beauty since I wasn't able to actually catch it on TV.   For some reason, sports bars were more interested in the battle for the basement that was the Eagles-Cardinals game.  AOL doesn't punt customers as many times as those two teams punted last night.

But I digress.

The Stars took the lead just under four minutes into the game when Mike Modano poked in a rebound past the Bolt's spare netminder.  Mind you, last year at this time I was saying Modano needs to burn in hell if he doesn't stop being a pretty boy whiner and start being a leader and a gamer.  Just to update everyone, the jury is still out on that.   He looked good before his injuries and pretty OK afterwards, but this season will be the acid test for him.

This season we find out whether or not Mr. Hicks wasted all those millions on a player who was just looking for a payday or a ring.  This season, there are more targets to spread the bull's eyes around on (with the arrival of Brett Hull) and at least one more reason not to take aim at all (with the arrival of Brett Sevryn).

Mike I'm still watching you.  I'll be the first to cheer you.   But . . . but, you screw up and I'll be the first one there with reserved seats for you in the "ninth circle," if you know what I mean . . . .

Mail Joe

Now . . . I'm just waiting for my first "Eagle sighting."  I can hardly wait.

"Get out the A-1 sauce, I'm done."  Go Stars!
