| After
fighting their way through some left over lethargy, Brett Hull would earn
his pay with a beauty of a shot that would beat that fraud Osgood, top shelf.
That would suffice to cuff most of the "spare weather" fans of the Wings in my section. |
|
As loud as the Detroit unwashed were with a two-goal lead, the Stars fans were loud... and getting louder. Did I pull a Rip Van Winkle and sleep through to April? Or have the Reunion Rowdies come home to roost, with a sport finally worthy of the title? |
| They
would come back to start the second only I think someone forgot to tell
the Wings power play unit. Jere Letinen would notch a short handed
goal just 22 seconds into the period.
Game tied. Wings fans silent. |
|
They cheered every short-handed puck clear. They chanted "Let's Go Stars" at each lull in the game. And once the game was tied early in the second period, they jeered Chris Osgood with such a ferocity he'll have nightmares about it until Friday, November 13. |
| Stars
fans on the other hand were frothing at the mouth. It was a scene
unlike any I had ever witnessed at a game in Dallas. It was almost
as if fan instructors from Canada had come down and told even the people
in the Stars Club seats how to act at a hockey game.
Hallelujah! |

Memo to Reuinion Arena
concessionaires: hire more beer vendors! The upper deck stairs are more
torturous, granted -- but we get thirstier than the snobs in the premium
seats... and we'll tip more! I swear!
During the game, I stayed in contact with Brother Puck via cell phone. I can't think of something more Nineties than talking to a friend ten sections and one concourse away on a cell phone. |
| The remainer of the period would see the home team fight for every inch of ice . . . |
|
Meanwhile, the Red Winged stepchildren behind me were growing more anxious with each lost pass and missed opportunity. Chris Osgood, lucky undisciplined punk that he is, provided me with no small amount of amusement. The vaunted Red Wings power play unit was replaced by the Keystone Kops on Ice brigade. It was only a matter of time brfore the game would belong to us. |
