The North Stars would turn out to out-skate, out-balance and just plain out-experience us. The first period would end with the score 2-0, North Stars.

The second period brought no relief. Just an endless stream of bodies into the crease area in our zone. Our unaccustomed legs would begin to show signs of wear on the ice and on the scoreboard. The second period end with us down 4-0 to the North Stars. |
| The third period was a sequel to the first two periods, with the relentless North Star offense pressing on all sides and their defense smothering our fledgling players. With 42 seconds left to play, I was pulled for the extra attacker to try to garner at least one goal. But experience won out over enthusiasm. In the end, we we're shut out 5-0. |  |
With the first game (and first loss) behind us, we look to play again on Monday, February 1. I only hope the shut out I bring this time is not for the other team.
